  • The Queen Esther Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 12 will host a scholarship car show at Majestic Park in Rathdrum on May 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.—car entrants will pay $30 to compete in categories including best rat rod, best truck, people’s choice and ladies’ choice while funds raise local student scholarships.  Coeur d'Alene Press

  • William O. Eyle, a Lapwai man aged 21, pleaded guilty to second degree murder for shooting Elias A. Spencer five times in May on the Nez Perce Reservation — Judge Amanda K. Brailsford sentenced him to 19 years in federal prison with five years of supervised release.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge on Tuesday extended a preliminary injunction that stops Idaho from enforcing two new immigration crimes—illegal entry and illegal reentry—as the ACLU of Idaho argued the law violates due process and federal law; the law was signed by Governor Brad Little on March 27 and took effect immediately.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Last Wednesday, leaders from Coeur d'Alene, Rathdrum and Kellogg met at the Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort Hotel for the Idaho Rural Success Summit to discuss downtown challenges and plans for renewal. The speakers outlined strategies to boost local identity—such as new street painting in Coeur d’Alene and a plan to add 30% more parking in Rathdrum—showing that each community is taking steps to improve its downtown area.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Today, Post Falls Urban Renewal Agency Commissioner Len Crosby flagged House Bill 436 as a potential issue, warning it could cut the agency’s tax increment potential by 18—20% in existing districts. Executive Director Joseph Johns said the bill lets city councils close districts without considering unpaid infrastructure obligations and that the agency will monitor its impact.  Coeur d'Alene Press
