Coeur d'Alene Fire Department donated a 1999 ladder truck to the NIC Workforce Training Center’s Firefighter 1 Academy on September 13—making it the first front-line ladder truck used for training by the city.
The donation gives students a rare chance to learn with equipment that once served the community and will help prepare future firefighters.
Members of the Lt. George Farragut Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution are hosting an essay contest and classroom program for fifth to eighth graders in Coeur d’Alene to learn about American history ahead of America 250 events on July 4.
Students must submit essays of 300 to 1,000 words by Nov.7 and the program will include a sing-along of the 13 colonies and a reading of the Concord Hymn—activities that help connect them with the past.
